The Cy5.5 dye provides strong fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region, ideal for biological imaging due to low autofluorescence in this window. The terminal thiol group allows for specific conjugation to gold surfaces, other thiol-reactive moieties, or the formation of disulfide bonds.
